The Creative Act, Rick Rubin

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This is a wonderful little book full of musings on the creative process. Rick Rubin strikes a balance between articulating thoughts and feelings that are deeply relatable to creative types, and novel suggestions on how we can all think differently about what it means to create. There is not too much I can say about any one particular idea presented in these pages, but Rubin’s concise and clear presentation means that this is a handy book both for a full read, and as a quick reference. Some of Rubin’s ideas are a bit vague and can veer on sounding like inspirational quotes, but overall, this book is poetically written, and left me feeling inspired to create. I fully intend to keep this book on hand whenever I need a jolt of creative inspiration or guidance.
